Position:                         Electrical Estimator 

Reports to:                     Managing Director 

Location:                        Westbury, Wiltshire (Hybrid)

Hours:                             8.00 am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday, 1/2 hour for lunch

Salary:                            £45,000 - £50,000

Role Objective:

To secure projects for the business by taking ownership of all aspects of the estimating process (including managing areas of design work where necessary) on electrical services quotations assigned by the bid manager for completion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with clients to establish their requirements
  • Assessing levels of risk on projects
  • Preliminary design work (where necessary) to create basic schemes on which accurate costings can be based
  • Researching materials and equipment where necessary to determine their suitability
  • Compiling and submitting of enquiries to suppliers and sub-contractors to obtain quotations
  • Full material take-off of services drawings and specifications
  • Setting up of estimate structure within estimating software and inputting of all labour, material and subcontract elements
  • Site surveys (where appropriate)
  • Negotiating with suppliers and sub-contractors to obtain best prices
  • Finalising costs with Bid Manager and preparing tender submissions including offer letters, qualifications, considerations and supporting documentation
  • Ensure compliance with tender return deadlines
  • Follow up tenders and assist with securing projects
  • Handover of tender packages on secured projects to contracts team. This would include a full insight into the scope of the project including allowances and potential material, labour and plant savings achievable to deliver the project within the boundaries of the submittal
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with clients, consultants, architects, project managers, suppliers and sub-contractors
  • Filing of documentation and information in the correct format and location
  • Support the estimating and design team where necessary to achieve deadlines
  • Maintaining awareness of latest technologies and procedures
  • All other estimating related duties as determined reasonable by the needs of the business

Person Specification

  • Previous experience in a similar role with a sound knowledge of installation methods and the ability to read drawings and specifications
  • Strong numerical, written communication and presentation skills
  • Able to work in a logical and methodical manner with a strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel together with experience in using specialist estimating software
  • Problem solving and analysis, planning and organisational skills
  • Focussed on quality and delivering results
  • Knowledge of policies, processes and procedures
  • Great customer service, understands the elements of teamwork and collaboration
  • Excellent relationship-building and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of company and client needs and the ability to manage both
