Head of Design & Engineering - Middlesex, UK - Permanent

We're on the lookout for a talented Head of Design & Engineering to join a well-established SME specialising in the creation of street furniture and digital signage. They offer custom design, engineering, manufacturing, technology, and installation solutions for public spaces.

As the Head of Design & Engineering, you'll report directly to the CEO and oversee all design and engineering activities within the company. This includes managing the internal design and drawing office department, as well as coordinating subcontract design resources and activities. This role is perfect for someone with extensive experience in signage, street furniture, architectural metalwork, fabrication engineering, and construction industries.

Responsibilities & Duties
  • Oversee and manage in-house design and engineering activities for the company's products.

  • Manage and develop contract-specific design and fabrication engineering activities for various in-house products and customer deliverables simultaneously.

  • Coordinate the creation of CAD manufacturing drawings for in-house manufacturing departments.

  • Oversee all value engineering activities.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant structural engineering standards.

  • Monitor and improve quality and workmanship throughout the design and engineering department.

  • Manage a roster of external designers and structural engineering design consultants.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree or HNC with in-depth market experience in design, product design, engineering, construction engineering, or a similar discipline.

  • Significant experience in the design and engineering of fabricated metal/architectural metalwork products for the signage, street furniture, and construction industries.

  • Strong knowledge of sheet metalwork, fabrication, steel-work, and signage manufacturing, as well as on-site installation/erection techniques.

  • Experience and knowledge of on-site construction, foundation/civils, and installation activities.
