Job Overview:

We are looking for a dedicated Technician - Hospitality to provide comprehensive daily support to the catering team and assist students in the catering kitchen. This is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about the hospitality industry and enjoys working with students to support their development through practical training.

Key Responsibilities:Supervising and Assisting Students:
  • Supervise students in the catering kitchen, assisting them in working towards Level 1, Level 2, Level 3 qualifications, and Apprenticeship qualifications.
  • Manage and support students working in the kitchen during lunch sessions, when the restaurant is open 4 days a week, and during planned Gourmet evenings.
  • Prepare ingredients for student skill-building sessions.
  • Ensure students maintain an up-to-date inventory of kitchen equipment on a termly basis.
  • Oversee the proper storage of provisions, ensuring items are stored in date order.
Student Support and Administration:
  • Set up and maintain student record files, ensuring uniform orders are checked and updated.
  • Supervise the laundering and ironing of kitchen towels, napkins, and tablecloths.
  • Assist students with planning and preparing for "Theme Days".
  • Work with the facilities team for the service and maintenance of kitchen equipment and deep cleaning outside of teaching weeks.
  • Update display boards to promote student work and upcoming events.
Commercial and External Event Promotion:
  • Assist in promoting and planning external events to raise commercial income for the restaurant.
  • Handle daily ordering with suppliers, ensuring stock is rotated, and conduct regular stock checks.
Supporting Teaching and Staff:
  • Assist lecturers during practical demonstrations and simulations.
  • Support teaching staff with food preparation for the restaurant and events.
  • Help with clearing up during and after classes and functions.
  • Launder linen for both the kitchen and restaurant.
  • Assist the chef manager with organising student visits, including necessary paperwork.
  • Write letters to students and suppliers as requested by teaching staff.
Food Hygiene and Safety:
  • Supervise kitchen cleaning activities, ensuring food hygiene standards are maintained.
  • Ensure compliance with food hygiene regulations and health & safety policies at all times.
General Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the safe storage of stock and equipment, reporting any faults promptly.
  • Stay up-to-date with trends and best practices within the catering industry.
  • Contribute to the promotion of college events such as open days.
  • Actively participate in training and development programs, including the appraisal process.
Additional Duties:
  • Assist with enrolment duties and cover reception as needed.
  • Promote and support the College's Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety, and Safeguarding Policies.
  • Participate in staff training and contribute to the college's overall training strategy.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
  • Passionate about hospitality and supporting student development.
  • Strong understanding of food hygiene and health & safety regulations.

  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Willingness to contribute to a collaborative, team-based environment.
