SEMH Teacher Job Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teacher to join this great team and support students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The ideal candidate will be passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people, providing tailored learning experiences that address both academic progress and emotional well-being.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, deliver, and assess engaging lessons tailored to students with SEMH needs.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment that fosters emotional and academic development.
  • Implement strategies to support students' emotional regulation, resilience, and positive behavior.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, and other professionals to provide holistic support.
  • Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behavior support plans.
  • Monitor and track student progress, adjusting teaching approaches as needed.
  • Foster strong relationships with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for students.
  • Maintain up-to-date records and reports in line with school policies and safeguarding procedures.
Requirements:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent (e.g., PGCE, SCITT).
  • Experience working with students with SEMH needs, SEND, or within an alternative provision setting.
  • Strong understanding of behavior management strategies and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Ability to differentiate lessons to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach to teaching and supporting young people.
Desirable:
  • Additional qualifications in SEN, Mental Health, or Therapeutic Education.
  • Experience using de-escalation techniques (e.g., Team Teach, MAPA, or similar training).
  • Familiarity with EHCPs (Education, Health, and Care Plans) and safeguarding procedures.
