Grafton Banks Finance are currently working with a commercial company with offices in Haywards Heath, West Sussex to recruit a Payroll Specialist on a full time permanent basis. Reporting into the Head of Payroll and working in a finance team, you will be responsible for managing the day to day weekly and monthly payroll for up to 2000 employees. Working Hybrid 2 days in office and 3 days from home.

On a day to day basis you will be responsible for:

  • To ensure that all employees are paid accurately and on time each month.
  • Ensure all procedural checks have been carried out satisfactorily, both prior and following payroll calculation run ensuring any errors are rectified and necessary correction made prior to BACS payment.
  • Manage the Company, Pensioners and 3rd party payrolls, providing accurate and timely payments of all payrolls in accordance with current legislation and with appropriate controls in place.
  • Administer SMP, SPP, SAP and all statutory payment salary deductions in line with legal and regulatory requirements and provide management information as required   Manage  the year-end procedure, including balancing the PAYE payments, submitting magnetic media and relevant HMRC forms and produce annual returns and statistics for Government bodies.
  • Ensure all external enquiries from organisations such as HMRC, Benefits agency, CSA, Banks and Building Societies, Courts and Solicitors etc are furnished with prompt and accurate replies to enquiries.
  • Produce Payroll-related information as required by the Finance department, and regular management information reports to HR on staff absence, overtime etc.
  • Administer staff absence and process company sick pay and SSP and process staff absence, overtime and other ad hoc payments through the payroll.
  • Ensure all statutory and non-statutory deductions are paid to third parties in accordance with relevant legislation and agreed deadlines, including tax, national insurance, attachment of earnings, pension contributions etc.
  • Ensure that all payroll year end processes and procedures are anticipated and planned for and meet statutory and accounting deadlines e.g. P60’s, P35, PI 4’s, P9d’s, PI Id’s etc.  
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external financial controls.
  • Produce and manage the payroll schedule and timetable for collation of overtime, holidays, starters, leavers and payroll changes and communicate to the organisation.

The successful candidate will be a professional Payroller with previous payroll experience within a commercial environment. You will need to be IT literate (Excel and payroll systems) have excellent communication skills and be a team player.
