The Role

We're delighted to be working with our wonderful client, a small business based on the outskirts of Haywards Heath, in their search for a Part-Time Accounts Administrator / Finance Assistant to join their team. This is an office-based role, requiring someone with their own transport due to the rural location. Reporting to the Office Manager, the successful candidate will work closely with the team to ensure the smooth running of the business's financial operations.

  • Monitoring and recording all bank deposits and payments and escalating issues promptly.
  • Maintaining sales and purchase ledgers.
  • Reconciling daily, monthly, and yearly transactions.
  • Supporting the external accountant with payroll, including processing salary, PAYE, and NI payments.
  • Managing submissions and payments of company taxes, such as Corporation Tax, VAT, and Import VAT.
  • Ensuring suppliers are paid on time.
  • Resolving financial disputes raised by the office or external customers.
  • Acting as a key point of contact for financial and accounting matters.
  • Updating internal systems with financial data.
  • Chasing outstanding debts.
  • Reviewing, creating, and implementing financial processes to improve operational efficiency.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have previous bookkeeping experience, with AAT qualifications considered highly desirable. Strong IT skills, particularly in Excel, are essential, as is a positive, can-do attitude. Empathy and the ability to remain calm under pressure are key attributes for success in this role. This role could suit someone who has worked as a Finance Assistant, Bookkeeper, or Accounts Administrator.
