WORKING HOURS: Working 12 hour days, 4 on 4 off, 8 am to 8pm

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Support Worker who has experience supporting service users in one or more of the following areas: Domestic Abuse, Substance Misuse, Offending Behaviour, Health Problems (physical and mental) and Homelessness.

As the Support Worker you will work as part of a team, providing a trauma informed, targeted and bespoke support service to survivors of domestic abuse with multiple compound needs in the community and within a safe accommodation space. This includes at the least three of the following:

  • Domestic Abuse
  • Substance Misuse
  • Offending Behaviour
  • Health Problems (physical and mental)
  • Homelessness

Working as the Support Worker this will be achieved through:

  • The provision of support in a safe and secure environment in East Sussex for residents and with survivors in the community. Survivors in the Community may be male
  • Delivery of structured and unstructured activities designed to support survivors achieve safe, secure lives free of domestic abuse
  • Supporting safe community integration through the development of healthy professional and personal relationships
  • Working with a shift rota which includes regular days and weekend work

DUTIES

Your duties as a Support Worker include:

  • Undertake assessments of need and risk using a variety of tools to assess suitability for the service and to inform care plans for each survivor
  • Receive and translate partner agency assessments and data to inform care plans
  • Deliver group-work and one-to-one sessions to survivor residents, maintaining respect, warmth and responsive interventions
  • Provide group and one-to-one support to survivors in the community (who may also join sessions with residents) at safe locations
  • Work as part of a team, including volunteers, engaging with survivors, planning, arranging and delivering/co-delivering a number of activities to support re-integration into the community
  • Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with colleagues, survivors, and partnership staff from other agencies
  • Review survivors’ well-being and take an active interest in their day-to-day lives and achievements
  • Provide practical assistance to survivors with everyday
  • Assist with the induction of new residents
  • Engage with survivors in a pro-social manner, praising pro social behaviours and attitudes and sensitively challenging anti-social, aggressive or abusive behaviours
  • Report any significant changes and share key information relating to risk of harm/and or reoffending or any non-compliances
  • Undertake regular inspections of the building
  • Assist with room inspections
  • Follow prescribed medication procedures
  • Provide appropriate First Aid if a resident is injured or self-harms

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Good numeracy and literacy skills
  • Experience of working with a diverse range of people who have experienced a range of social/personal difficulties including substance misuse, mental health challenging and housing issues
  • Good understanding of domestic abuse
  • Experience of working with Microsoft Word, Outlook and basic Excel
  • An understanding of safeguarding
  • Able to work alone, without guidance
  • Work on a shift which covers days and weekends
  • Being empathic, with the ability to use tact and discretion when dealing with confidential and sensitive issues

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working within a residential setting
  • Previous experience of working with women
  • Experience of working with groups or individuals in order to support, motivate and change behaviour
  • An understanding of factors relating to multiple, compound needs
  • knowledge and experience of the work within the Criminal Justice System

This role is subject to an enhanced check level 2 which includes an Enhanced DBS check. All required checks will be undertaken as part of the pre employment process for any successful candidate.
