Based near Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, MRK Associates is exclusively partnering with a prestigious UK-wide employer in their search for a qualified accountant to join them as Financial Controller on a permanent basis.

This job would suit a fully qualified ACA, ACCA, or CIMA accountant with a strong track record in managing transactions teams whilst ensuring all financial accounting and reporting is produced in a timely and accurate manner. Reporting to the Finance Director, the Financial Controller will take ownership for driving change across the Finance team as well as effectively leading the delivery and reporting of core Finance Operation processes.

This large business has seen positive growth over the last few years and has achievable plans to grow to turnover by over 30% in the next few years. They are highly regarded within their industry having won many awards and high-profile contracts.

The role will have 3 direct reports (all long-term employees) with c.15 overall in the team but will need to be quite hands on with overall financial accounting and controls side of the accounting.

The successful individual will be a qualified ACA, ACCA, or CIMA accountant with strong people management skills and strong technical finance experience ideally in a finance team of c.8 people or more. Previous experience should ensure this individual is comfortable with managing operational transactional processes, including Payroll, PL, Credit Control, Accounts Analysis and Accounts Reconciliations, whilst developing key relationships with both finance and non-finance stakeholders across the business. Any knowledge of Syrinx, Select Pay, Netsuite, Access Dimensions and Power BI would be advantageous whilst good working knowledge of Excel is essential.

Job responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Financial Analysis, Payroll, Purchase Ledger and Credit Control processes across Finance.
  • Provide ownership and oversight for training requirements across Finance.
  • Assume responsibility for the following operational, transactional processes:
    • Payroll, which includes timesheet input, starters, leavers, and payroll checks;
    • Credit control, which includes drafting credit control policies, credit insurance, performing customer checks, managing receivables, including assisting with any litigation; and invoice finance
    • PL processes, which include PO, GRN, invoice processes, payments monitoring and payments practices monitoring.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely preparation of statutory accounts, in accordance with any accounting, legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure that monthly VAT returns are prepared correctly and submitted on time.
  • Ensure that all year end accounts are completed on time.
  • Lead, monitor and provide oversight for the monthly preparation of balance sheet and bank reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and statutory authorities e.g. CIS, HMRC, Companies House etc.
  • Communicate with auditors to ensure they have all the necessary information.
  • Oversee and monitor the preparation of audit schedules and accounts for financial control.
  • Company cashflow planning with the FD, by providing the operational company monthly cash flow forecast.
