Grafton Banks Finance are working with a growing commercial company with offices in Hemel Hempstead, Herfordshire, to recruit a progressive Assistant Accountant on a full time permanent basis. Working hybrid, 3 days in office and 2 days from home. Reporting into the Group Financial Controller and supporting the wider Group Finance Function with the smooth running of the companies day to day finances.

Job Summary:

The Accounts Assistant will be responsible for accounting for an area of the group’s accounts, analysing and explaining selected division results, and preparing reports. The Accounts Assistant will post all the necessary journals to complete the month-end and will complete and review all the balance reconciliations in their area of responsibility. The management accounts will support the year-end audit, provide any supporting information requested and answer any questions.

Duties and Responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring all necessary postings are made to produce the monthly management accounts and annual financial statements.
  • Issuing any necessary weekly reports to support understanding and financial control.
  • Ensure the group prepares accurate management accounts to be issued to the business by working day three
  • Production of profit and loss analysis packs.
  • Attend monthly review meetings with business owners.
  • Review and improve accounting and reporting processes and systems
  • Ensure all balance sheet reconciliations are produced and reviewed each month
  • Ensure the branch profit and loss accounts queries and answered
  • Support the year-end audit with necessary information
  • Ad hoc project work

Key Skills required for the job:

  • Minimum AAT qualified, and or studying towards (ACCA,CIMA or equivalent)
  • At least 2 years practical working experience within finance
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly MS Excel and MS Word.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise workload in a fast-paced environment.
