M&E Data Centre Engineer

Location: Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire
Salary: 44,000 - 45,000 (based on experience)
Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 08:00 - 17:00
Additional Benefits: Overtime pay, vehicle (for on-call duties) and a call-out allowance.

Are you an experienced M&E Engineer with a background in critical environments? Our client, a leader in Data Centre Solutions, is seeking a skilled M&E Data Centre Engineer to join their team at their Hemel Hempstead location. This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer with a strong technical background in electrical and mechanical maintenance within data centre environments.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day operations within the data centre, ensuring all planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive tasks are completed on schedule.
  • Apply a risk-focused maintenance approach to maintain critical facilities in line with Health & Safety procedures.
  • Provide rapid, effective responses to emergencies and high-priority issues, escalating when necessary.
  • Supervise contractors on-site, manage permits, and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Maintain logs and records demonstrating compliance with maintenance requirements.
  • Contribute to ongoing improvements and collaborate with the CBRE QHS specialist to ensure audit compliance.
  • Take ownership of personal technical training and competency development, including critical services and scenario training.


Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • Qualifications: 18th Edition Electrical Wiring Regulations, Electrical City & Guilds (2391-52 Testing & Inspection preferred).
  • Experience: Background in critical change management, electrical and mechanical maintenance, and knowledge of data centre operations.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with UPS systems, standby power, and critical environment cooling systems.
  • Safety & Compliance: Experience with F-Gas, emergency response and Authorised Person LV & HV status is advantageous.
  • Additional: Strong communication skills, computer literacy, and a team-oriented approach.


Additional Information:

  • On-call Availability: Participation in a rota for out-of-hours emergency coverage (call-out allowance included).
  • Driving License: A clean driving license is essential, with a location within one hour from Hemel Hempstead.
