Think Accountancy and Finance are excited to partner with a growing charity organisation in Hemel Hempstead, seeking an experienced Finance Manager or Head of Finance. If you have a background in the not-for-profit sector including schools, Charitys or Trusts, and are looking to join a dynamic, mission-driven organisation, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

As a key member of the finance team, you will report directly to the Finance Director and support the organisation in a wide range of financial activities, including:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare financial reports and present insights to the Board of Trustees
  • Provide strategic financial insights to aid long-term planning and decision-making
  • Lead, mentor, and support the Finance Assistant in their professional development
  • Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Credit Control functions
  • Manage petty cash for additional sites
  • Prepare Management Accounts and ensure accuracy
  • Support audit processes and statutory reporting
  • Provide financial data for contracts, funding bids, tenders, and income generation
  • Manage the charity's investment strategy
  • Ensure compliance with SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice)

This is a key role within a rapidly growing organisation, so we are seeking a proactive, growth-oriented individual who can work independently while fostering collaboration with teams across the business.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Qualified by Experience or a Chartered Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent)
  • Essential experience in a charity or not-for-profit organisation
  • Experience in payroll processing
  • Strong IT skills, including proficiency in QuickBooks or other cloud-based software
  • Ability to travel across multiple sites (access to own car is required)
  • Knowledge of tendering, contracting, income generation, and grant funding
