Located in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, our award-winning client is seeking a Payroll and Benefits Manager to join their busy finance team on a permanent basis, with an excellent hybrid model.

This role would suit an experienced payroll manager accustomed to leading a team of at least two, management experience for this role is a must! They will take charge of the payroll team and have overall responsibility for managing the UK payroll function and employee expense system.

The organisation is a large, global, multi-site company with an excellent track record in staff retention and career progression.

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned payroll and benefits manager with up-to-date knowledge of HMRC legislation. They must be an exceptional manager, effective communicator, and strong team player, with a proven history of delivering work to the highest standard and taking on ad hoc projects as required. Advanced systems skills, particularly in Microsoft Office (including advanced Excel functions such as formulas, VLOOKUPs, and pivot tables), are essential. Familiarity with Microsoft Query (SQL) is advantageous. The role requires close collaboration with HR and operations teams, as well as building relationships with systems providers such as Moorepay, and Concur.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing the payroll function to ensure data accuracy and seamless operations, working closely with the HR team.
  • Overseeing one weekly and two 4-weekly payrolls, covering over 1900 employees.
  • Ensuring HMRC compliance across all payroll matters, including salary sacrifice schemes and P11D submissions.
  • Taking full responsibility for the administration and smooth operation of the global Concur expense system, ensuring adherence to HMRC regulations.
  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders by providing data and reports and supporting project initiatives.
  • Maintaining and managing relationships with system providers.
  • Ensuring the payroll team meets reporting deadlines and supports audit requests.
  • Continuously reviewing the payroll team structure to ensure it remains effective, while supporting team learning and development opportunities.
