We are looking for a driven, commercially astute, and dynamic Quantity Surveyor or Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our growing team. The role is based in Hemel Hempstead, with a requirement to travel to our head office in Bracknell at least once a week.


As a Quantity Surveyor, your key responsibility will be assessing and billing client work using NHF or bespoke Schedule of Rates. You will be instrumental in converting Work in Progress (WIP) into timely invoices while strategically maximising value and profit margins on your contracts.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of proven experience with subcontractors or main contractors, particularly within the Joint Contracts Tribunal (JCT), the New Engineering Contract (NEC) or the social housing sector.

Main Objectives of the Quantity Surveyor role:

Providing support to the Commercial Manager and project team throughout the duration of the projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, in full and within the agreed budget. The ideal candidate will achieve this through:

  • maximisingthe successful running and commercial control of each projecttoachieve optimum commercial returnthrough the submission ofmonthly applications
  • managingprojects throughaccurate forecasting andcontrollingprojectcosts
  • commercial reporting:take responsibility for commercial reporting on assigned contracts, including forecasting and Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs), where applicable
  • ensuringthat projects meetthelegal and quality standardsrequiredin line with contract documents
  • meeting clients to determine their needs and discuss any areas that need revising for price or feasibility, as well assecuringany farmingopportunities
  • responsible for producing and presenting monthly commercial reports, Works in Progress (WIP) review meetings, to senior stakeholders
  • support the management team: provide commercial details and information to support the managing team as required
  • supply chain management


Do you have what it takes?

  • a minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience with a main contractor or working in a commercial role on refurbishing contracts in the social housing sector or other sectors
  • knowledge and understanding of measurement and valuation, including the use of Schedules of Rates
  • strong commercial skills to maximise value recovery and control costs
  • Professional and highly organised, with excellent communication skills
  • excellent communication and time management skills
  • strong IT skills, including internal cost systems and advanced proficiency in Excel
  • experience in managing and improving internal and external customer relationships, with conflict-resolution skills
  • ability to work effectively to tight deadlines and confidence to adequately challenge conflicting priorities
  • strong organisational skills with meticulous attention to detail, proactive and positive, with a 'can-do' attitude
  • Full, clean UK driving license


Qualifications required

  • qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related field
  • professional RICS membership or another appropriate body
