Engage Education is seeking an experienced and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to work with a primary aged pupils with ASD needs. This role requires someone who is passionate about supporting children with challenging behaviour, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and thrive in a nurturing environment.

You will play a key role in providing tailored support to this pupil, using behaviour management strategies and fostering emotional regulation. Your ability to build a strong, trusting relationship will be essential in ensuring the child can fully engage with their learning and develop socially and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement personalised strategies and support plans.
  • Assist in managing challenging behaviour in a positive and proactive manner, using de-escalation techniques.
  • Support the emotional and social development of the pupil, promoting positive interactions and self-regulation.
  • Adapt learning resources and activities to meet the pupil’s individual needs and learning style.
  • Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to teachers, parents, and other professionals involved in the child’s care.
  • Create a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment that encourages learning and growth.

Requirements:

  • HLTA qualification or extensive experience working with children with SEN needs and challenging behaviour.
  • Strong understanding of ASD
  • Experience of working 1:1 with pupils with additional needs in a school setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with the pupil and work collaboratively with staff and parents.
  • Patience, resilience, and a calm, positive approach to managing challenging situations.
