Overview:
The Head Groundsman is responsible for managing the Ground Maintenance team and overseeing the upkeep and maintenance of the grounds and arena at the Client's location and associated estate properties, with a primary focus on polo-related activities. This position reports to the Estate & Polo Manager.
Specific Duties:
Polo Fields
- Responsible for cutting, feeding, sanding, and herbicide application on the polo fields.
- Oversee divot filling, irrigation, and all necessary field preparations, including late evening and weekend work.
- Maintenance of polo boards, goal posts, and end-of-season preparations.
- Tasks include feeding, harrowing, topping, over-seeding, and herbicide application.
- Maintenance of polo outfields, banks, verges, ditches, tree pruning, hedges, and litter removal.
- Care for estate properties' lawns and assist with winter feeding of polo ponies.
- Responsible for servicing irrigation systems, winter drain-down, and anti-freeze procedures.
- Metering for the Environment Agency.
- Ensure all machinery, including tractors, is maintained to the highest standard.
- Tasks may include overhauling, greasing, adjustment, and painting as required.
- Review and approve all invoices related to Ground Maintenance.
- Assist in compiling the Annual Ground Maintenance Report.
- Conduct interviews, training, and supervision of Ground Staff.
- Collaboration on recruitment and selection with the Estate & Polo Manager.
- Ensure adequate staff coverage during absences and record sick days.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations concerning machinery and chemical usage.
- Train staff on correct procedures, including train crossing safety measures.
- Adhere to Company Health & Safety Manual policies and procedures.
- Complete any additional tasks assigned by the Estate & Polo Manager.
- Assist with duties outside the job description but within the scope of the position.
