Network / Systems Engineer

Our client is open minded as to the level of experience required to perform this role and would like to consider candidates who are relatively inexperienced but who have a passion for the sector and are keen to progress fast. Additionally, they’re keen to hear from experienced professions with proven abilities in Networking and Satellite communications too. Salaries will be based upon the successful applicants level of experience.

Our client is a well-established, dynamic and highly profitable supplier of technology products and services to an impressive, international customer base.

They seek to appoint a new, member to the Network Engineering Team – the role will be varied and will suit someone who likes to be busy, is able to multitask and who takes a pro-active approach to work.

Our client provide satellite hardware, services and airtime packages as well as networking professional services customers across the UK and Europe. They are currently going through an exciting growth phase and, as a result of new projects coming on line our client are looking to recruit a (CCNA) network engineer with some satellite communication knowledge who can grow and develop with the Company over the long term. The new role will also provide the opportunity for development in the field of network engineering through various training courses such as CCNP and AWS networking.

Roles and Responsibilities

The role will also be multi disciplined and will consist of mainly network support but the chosen engineer will also need to assist with satellite configuration and maintenance. For the satellite role, the employer, will provide off site training as well as structured on the job training. A list of roles and responsibilities are as follows:

  • Maintain existing production networks.
  • Support IT manager with corporate network where needed.
  • Ensure deployed network equipment firmware is up to date by planning and scheduling firmware updates.
  • Maintain existing cloud based (AWS) network infrastructure.
  • Maintain bespoke SDWAN capabilities (Not Cisco).
  • Maintain and apply changes to Palo Alto firewalls.
  • Provide technical input on project meetings.
  • Production of technical documents and diagrams for projects.
  • Assist engineers with prestaging of LEO/GEO satellite terminals and air time plans.

Qualifications and Skill sets required

  • CCNA certified or equivalent skill set.
  • Understanding of Satellite systems such as Starlink.
  • Network monitoring using PRTG.
  • Proficient at creating IPSec configurations and associated routing.
  • Experience of firewall administration would be nice to have.
  • Proficient with MS office and able to created detailed Visio diagrams.
  • Production of LowLevel Design documentation.
  • Understanding of ITIL framework and understand change control.
