Engineering Technician

We are seeking a skilled Engineering  Lab Technician on full time permanent basis in Herefordshire. You will be supporting the mechanical design, prototyping, and testing activities within our client’s cutting-edge defence projects. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in developing high-precision components and systems, utilising expertise in mechanical design, CNC machining, and prototype assembly.

A strong background in mechanical engineering and manufacturing techniques is essential, with experience in CNC machining for producing and modifying components. Additional knowledge of electrical hardware and wiring would be additional desirable. The role will involve hands-on testing and validation of prototypes, ensuring performance and reliability in demanding environments.

What you can expect:

  • Working hours: Office hours with some flexibility on start and finish times
  • Salary: Circa £45’000 per annum
  • Location: rural Herefordshire
  • Annual leave: 25 days plus bank holidays

What you will be doing:

  • Assist in mechanical design and fabrication of defence-related components and systems
  • Operate and program CNC machines to manufacture and modify precision parts
  • Support prototype assembly, testing, and validation to meet project requirements
  • Work closely and collaboratively to troubleshoot and refine mechanical designs
  • Provide input on manufacturing processes, material selection, and tolerances
  • Conduct quality control inspections to ensure compliance with specifications
  • Support electrical hardware integration, including basic wiring and component assembly (desirable)

What we are looking for:

  • Proven experience in mechanical design and manufacturing within a technical environment
  • Proficiency in CNC machining (milling, turning, or related processes)
  • Experience with prototype development and testing
  • Basic understanding of electrical hardware and wiring (desirable)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a highly regulated, defence-focused setting
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and technical documentation
  • Requirement will be subject to an enhanced security clearance
  • Trustworthiness, efficiency and reliability
  • Driving licence and own transport due to rural location
