We have a fantastic opportunity for a Groundworker at Rochdale Council. This is a full-time temporary role for the next 2 - 3 months, with the possibility of extension.

What is the role?

Rochdale Council are looking for a Groundworker to be part of a reactive and planned maintenance team providing a quality building maintenance service to the customers of Rochdale Borough Council. Carry out general labouring duties to assist Managed Property Services personnel and the various trades on a construction site. Carry out duties within set timescales in a manner that demonstrates a high regard for customer care, and a high standard of workmanship, efficiency and compliance with customer / contract requirements.

What are your responsibilities?

  • To ensure all labouring duties are carried out in a proper manner, such as, but not inclusive of the loading/unloading of materials, purchasing/collection of materials from suppliers using RBC fleet vehicles, various aspects of ground works, mixing various mortar/substrates, maintaining a tidy site and any other general duties as required in order to assist either MPS personnel or any of the various trades on site.
  • Carry out reactive and planned works throughout the Borough of Rochdale, in both a domestic and commercial setting, on a wide variety of building types and premises.
  • Occasionally undertake works in potentially higher risk environments and properties.
  • Carry out works in association with the councils Home Improvement Agency (HIA).
  • Undertake any additional tasks that are within the remit, and/or skillset, of the existing role.
  • To work with the MPS team leaders to ensure a high quality service is provided at all times.
  • Work on an individual basis, using own initiative and with minimal supervision, following the councils lone working procedures.
  • Work alongside other trades to carry out larger projects, ensuring safe systems of work are followed at all times.
  • Ensure that safe and responsible methods of working are employed and followed at all times in accordance with current health and safety legislation through reading, understanding and helping to produce risk assessments, safe systems of work and method statements with team leaders.
  • Ability to be able to recognise other defects when carrying out job specific tasks and inform the relevant personnel.
  • To work at height when the role requires.
  • Work in low risk confined spaces when the role requires.
  • The role is mainly ground works based, such as flagging, DDA ramps and Steps etc.

What skills do you Need?

  • Must have previous Groundworker experience on a construction site.
  • Excellent people skills, as you will be speaking to the public, and other members of staff including managers.
  • Must be physically fit and healthy, as you will mostly be working outside and lifting heavy items
  • Valid Enhanced DBS on the update Service.
  • Full UK Driving Licence
