Rochdale Council is seeking a General Driver / Grounds Maintenance Operative for a full-time, temporary position based at the Green Lane office in Heywood. This role is essential for maintaining the aesthetic and safety of the council's green spaces.
Day-to-day of the role:- Carry out general gardening and grounds maintenance duties across various locations within the borough.
- Operate pedestrian, hand-held, and ride-on machines for grass cutting.
- Perform strimming, hedge trimming, shrub maintenance, and edging.
- Remove weeds and perform general street cleansing tasks.
- Litter pick areas as required and empty litter bins.
- Work flexibly across different locations within the borough and be willing to work overtime as needed to meet service requirements.
- Please be aware that you will be taking a Driving Test on your first day, and if you do not pass you will not be able to continue in the role.
- Physical fitness and reliability.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn all aspects of horticulture.
- Full and clean driving licence is desirable.
- Qualification in Horticulture (NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent) is desirable but not essential.
- Experience in a grounds maintenance environment is preferred.
- Pesticides application Certificate PA1 & PA6 is desirable.
- Willingness to adhere to the council’s Health and Safety Policy.
