Service Department Manager (£50K + Car Allowance)

Reporting to: Service Director

Role Overview:

This role is within a well-established and busy building services department, which has an annual turnover exceeding £8m. The department specialises in air-conditioning and covers all aspects of building services and associated trades, including small works. The team consists of seven office staff, eleven employed engineers (including one apprentice), and multiple subcontractors.

Job Purpose:

Responsible for managing, coordinating, and developing maintenance and reactive services for customers. The role ensures that resources and facilities provided by team members and external partners are efficiently planned and executed to the highest standards, within agreed timescales, and in full compliance with current Health and Safety legislation.

Key Responsibilities:

      Identify and implement service improvements or escalate proposals to the Service Director.

Prepare pricing, quotations, and tender submissions, as well as manage service contracts.

Assist the service coordinator with resource and logistics planning.

Monitor performance and conduct staff appraisals.

Provide technical support to engineers and subcontractors.

Ensure team members have the necessary resources to fulfil their roles effectively.

Act as the primary point of contact for customer complaints.

Ensure accurate completion and input of timesheets, verifying against trackers and resolving any discrepancies.

Oversee the department's accounting functions, ensuring timely and accurate processing.

Manage employee holiday and sickness records within the Service department.

Build and maintain strong client relationships.

Diagnose and troubleshoot customer issues.

Report key performance data.
