Department Function

The Cladding Remediation Team is established to assess and remediate fire safety defects in medium and high-rise buildings across the groups legacy portfolio of developments across England, Scotland, and Wales. To the standards agreed with the nations governments, the team will assess each building, and where remediation is required, will deliver a suitable remediation scheme to rectify the building. The technical function within the team will ensure projects are designed and delivered in a technically robust manner, ensuring compliant remediation schemes are delivered to meet legislative and regulatory standards.

As a member of the team you will be directly contributing to improving the safety of buildings, and providing assurance to residents through our customer-focused approach to remediation.

Job summary/Purpose

The Assistant Fire Engineer will work as part of our cladding remediation team to consider and review Type 1 and Type 2 Fire Risk Assessments, FRAEWs, and EWS1 assessments, as well as assisting with the development of remedial works fire engineering strategies and effective solutions for our cladding and building safety remediation projects.

The role will also assist the Senior Fire Engineer in providing fire engineering guidance and support for the Group Technical function in consideration of our new home portfolio, details and specifications.

The role will support the cladding remediation team when assessing remediation proposals and risk management to ensure successful outcomes, including meeting government commitments, maximising stakeholder expectations, and ensuring a maximising return on capital investment.

Ensuring all fire engineering associated development activity complies with regulatory and other statutory obligations.

The location of the role is flexible however the Graduate / Junior Fire Engineer will be expected to travel throughout the UK.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support TW cladding remediation and building remediation strategies.
  • Communicate and assess fire engineering related Health and Safety obligations across the business.
  • Ensure consistent fire engineering approach to assessment & implementation of cladding remediation and building safety remediation projects.
  • Prepare and maintain standard Fire Engineering technical guidance for Group Technical to ensure consistent approach across the business.
  • Undertake any other duties as required by the Senior Fire Engineer, Director of Cladding Remediation or Group Technical Director.
  • Work with Regional business units and technical teams to review fire engineering strategies and solutions and ensure compliance with regulations in relation to the construction of our cladding remediation projects, and new homes.

Experience, Qualifications, Technical Requirements

  • A degree in fire related subject as defined by the Engineering Council; or Institute of Fire Engineers (IFE); or an IFC recognised education programme for MIFireE
  • Membership of the Institute of Fire Engineers or other relevant professional organisation.
  • A solid understanding of fire engineering principles and applying performance-based designs to the construction of buildings.
  • Knowledge of fire strategies for high rise apartment buildings, complex buildings and low rise residential development.
  • Knowledge of UK Building Regulations, fire related British Standards and EWS1 assessment process. Ability to think laterally and apply commercial best practise solutions to meet project requirements.
  • Ability to assist with the development of standard details for passive fire protection in new homes and apartments working with the Group Procurement, Production and Technical teams to ensure appropriate products are specified to comply with relevant building regulations.
  • Ability to assist with providing training to group and regional technical teams on fire safety matters.
