Summary

Would you like to work for Europe’s largest conservation charity which looks after nature, beauty and history for everyone to enjoy?We’re looking for an experienced Senior Building Surveyor to join our Estate Management Team, working across Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire including the beautiful estates of Hughenden, Cliveden, Buscot and Coleshill.You’ll lead the approach to managing a large and varied let portfolio including residential, holiday cottages, commercial, and agricultural properties which are occupied by our tenants. Principally working on historic and listed buildings, you’ll be a key influence in helping guide and prepare our let buildings to meet future challenges.Your contractual location will be our Hughenden Hub, Buckinghamshire and there will be an expectation for you to attend the office at least once a week. However, there is flexibility on where you are based at other times which could be at one of our Estate Offices in Oxfordshire or Berkshire. You will be required to work at a National Trust location for at least 60% of your working week. This will be discussed in more detail at interview.

This is a permanent, full time opportunity. Salary £62,000 with market supplement*. Depending on experience and relevant qualifications.

*Please note the advertised salary is inclusive of a £8,000 reviewable market supplement. Your base salary will be £54,000 and you will receive the market supplement as an allowance on top.

What you'll be doing

As the technical buildings lead in our multi-disciplinary and friendly team, you will work closely with colleagues in the estate management team, and in the organisation, to manage high level planned and reactive maintenance over a three-year budget settlement with a focus on delivering best value and high quality work.The role will also require you to project manage or be the client for a variety of construction projects up to, and occasionally over, the value of £1m. Line managing and supporting the professional development of a small team of building supervisors, you’ll play a pivotal role in preparing our let estate for the future.

  • Qualified surveyor or architect (e.g., MRICS, MCIOB or equivalent)
  • High-level financial acumen and strong experience of managing large budgets
  • Demonstratable experience in building surveying in heritage and conservation
  • Robust building conservation knowledge, including procurement, maintenance, repair, and asset and contract management
  • An understanding of relevant legislation and best practice
  • Experienced in delivering projects in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Adept with working at pace across a varied client base
