Principal/Lead Ecologist – South-East (Hybrid)

Overview

Our clients are an established Tier 1 contractor working across the UK and specialise in Highways infrastructure projects. As part of their ongoing growth they are currently looking for a Principal/ Lead Ecologist to join their growing team. The company pride themselves on being environmentally focused and have won multiple awards over the last few years – now is a great time to be joining them on their exciting journey!  

The company have a well-established environmental services team, and are now focused on growing their in-house Ecology team alongside this. The successful candidate will get the unique opportunity to build and develop the Ecology team, being involved with the recruitment for Senior, Mid and Assistant level Ecologists going forward.

The role will offer the opportunity to develop your career, as the team continues to expand there will be numerous options for internal progression and to deliver high quality ecology work on important infrastructure projects.  

Successful applicants will meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum 5years commercial experience as an ecologist must hold at least 1 protected species licence (we are open on which one(s) you hold).  
  • Prior experience working on UK infrastructure projects
  • Proficient in field surveys, habitat mitigation, BNG assessments and protected species surveys.
  • Be capable of undertaking surveys, producing technical reports and supporting teams on project sites.
  • You should have detailed knowledge of relevant UK/EU environmental legislation and confidence in discussing these with clients.
  • Proven track record of co-ordinating and delivering a range of office and site-based ecological services to achieve positive project outcomes.
  • Hold a full and clean UK driving licence.
  • This position is remote based/ working from home – with use of regional office locations and the expectancy to travel to project sites when required.
  • Any previous experience within highways projects would be great to see but we won’t exclude candidates who don’t have this experience.
