Carbon60 are currently looking for a Control and Instrumentation Engineer to join a client of ours based in high Wycombe. Our client is an international Company, which includes manufacturing plants, engineering centres and sales offices in Europe and USA and specialised in Water and Wastewater Treatment, Sludge Dewatering and Recovery Systems.


We are seeking a talented Control and Instrumentation Engineer to join a dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing control systems, process flow diagrams, and control strategies for wastewater treatment and recovery systems.

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Developing P&ID and PFDs in conjunction with the process engineers.
  • Reading, Designing and Drafting Instrument Loop Diagrams, Reading, Electrical Schematics and Wiring diagrams.
  • Understanding, calculation, checking of cable sizes and cable schedules.
  • Select efficient and cost-effective instrumentation and auxiliary equipment.
  • Creating the specifications for the control panel
  • Creating FAT specification and involvement during FATs.
  • Providing field support for pilot trials, installations, commissioning, or any other field works.
  • Participate in Hazop / SIL / Operability Studies at UK/Overseas Sites.
  • CAD use for electrical, Instrumentation and P&ID Drawings

Required qualifications

  • To have experienced in using CAD for Electrical, Instrument and Piping drawings including:

P&IDs & Equipment Layout

Wiring Diagrams

Panel Layouts

Panel Schematics

Skid Layouts

Electrical Single Line and Block Cabling Diagrams

Electrical Connection Diagrams

  • Strong knowledge of instrumentation selection, including sensors, analysers, valves, and control systems.
  • Proficiency in developing process flow diagrams, P&IDs, and control strategies using engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, P&ID software).

Desired qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical & Instrumentation, or related field).
  • Understanding of Water/Wastewater Treatment Systems in Industrial sectors including Municipal, O&G, biogas etc.
  • Experience in instrumentation and process engineering, preferably in water and wastewater treatment or similar industries.
  • Understanding of specification for the design and selection of equipment in Hazardous Areas.
