Position: Field Service Engineer

Location: Home-based (Ideally in located in Bedfordshire or Hertfordshire area, North of M25)

Remuneration: 50,000 - 60,000 (DOE), company vehicle, annual bonus, pension, holiday + additional company benefits

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Field Service Engineer to join our team, providing essential support for our clients across various industries, including electric drive systems, heavy machinery and commercial vehicles. This is a dynamic role that combines technical expertise with hands-on problem-solving at customer sites and requires a proactive individual who thrives in diverse and challenging environments. The role is home-based with regular travel to customer locations.

Field Service Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-site support and troubleshooting for complex drive and transmission systems, ensuring timely and effective resolution of technical issues.
  • Perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on a wide range of equipment and systems at customer and third-party locations.
  • Conduct major component exchanges and overhauls on-site to minimise equipment downtime.
  • Offer support to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and assist with new product introductions, ensuring smooth integration into existing systems.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, ensuring a high level of service and satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety and Environmental regulations while working on customer sites, adhering to relevant documentation and best practices.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development, including product-specific training and professional development courses, to enhance technical skills and knowledge.
  • Be prepared to work in various and sometimes challenging environments, including unsociable hours, to meet business and customer needs.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in working patterns, including the willingness to travel frequently and undertake additional hours when required.

Field Service Engineer Qualifications and Experience:

  • Completed engineering apprenticeship or equivalent as a minimum; Level 5 qualification (or higher) in a relevant field such as Mechanical, Electrical, or Automotive Engineering is preferred.
  • Strong background in field service engineering, particularly within the commercial vehicle, electric drive systems, or related industries.
  • Proven experience in diagnosing and repairing complex mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Hands-on experience with electric vehicles and understanding of their operational and maintenance requirements.
  • Excellent diagnostic skills with the ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems.
  • Good proficiency in IT, including familiarity with diagnostic tools and software.
  • Ability to understand and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Full, clean UK driving license.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive and adaptable approach to new challenges.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively.
