SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator)

We are assisting a highly regarded secondary school in Hitchin in their search for a dedicated SENCo to join their team on a permanent basis from January 2025. This role is crucial in leading and managing the SEND provision, ensuring compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and supporting the educational and developmental needs of pupils with special educational needs and disabilities.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Lead and manage the SEND provision in accordance with the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Develop, oversee, and regularly review individual support plans (EHCPs) for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities.
  • Collaborate closely with teaching staff to ensure high-quality differentiated teaching for pupils with SEND.
  • Liaise with parents, carers, external agencies, and the local authority to effectively support pupilsā€™ educational and developmental needs.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress and outcomes of SEND pupils, ensuring that appropriate interventions are in place and adjusted as necessary.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Hold a recognised SENDCo qualification or be actively working towards one (NASENCo preferred).
  • Experienced teacher with a strong passion for supporting pupils with SEND.
  • Thorough understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and the EHCP process.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive education and experience working with a range of special needs.
  • Organised, resilient, and capable of working collaboratively with staff, parents, and external professionals.
