About the RoleButler Rose is proud to be working on behalf of our client, a leading manufacturing company in the Honiton area, in their search for a skilled Supplier Quality Engineer on a fixed term contract basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual with a passion for quality control and supplier management to join a growing team and play a key role in ensuring that all vendor-supplied goods meet the required quality standards.

As a Supplier Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for managing and improving supply chain quality, conducting vendor audits, and driving corrective actions to ensure compliance with contractual requirements. You will work closely with the Purchasing and Engineering teams to ensure that all goods received are in accordance with specifications and that any quality issues are addressed promptly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure vendors comply with contractual requirements, supplying goods to the required quality standards, and drive corrective actions where necessary.
  • Manage and improve supply chain quality, including conducting vendor audits and reporting on outcomes.
  • Witness corrective actions at vendors following DMRs (Discrepancy Material Reports) and ensure timely close-out of issues.
  • Support Purchasing by ensuring customer contract quality standards are adhered to throughout the supply chain.
  • Establish and track metrics for DMRs, defect responsibility (internal and external), and vendor cost recovery where applicable.
  • Oversee the sign-off of new parts through First Article Inspection (FAI) or ISIR (Initial Sample Inspection Report).
  • Process concessions and deviations, ensuring they align with quality standards.
  • Provide feedback on product tolerances, vendor machine capabilities, and cost exposure to Engineering.
  • Manage supplier quality in line with ISO9001 requirements, including specific customer contract flow downs.
  • Organise your workload to achieve both personal and business objectives.
  • Work closely with Purchasing, Production Control, and Project teams during the development of new products to ensure timely delivery of pre-production materials, focusing on time, quality, and cost.
  • Support and develop the Goods Inward Inspection team through training and development.
  • Ensure compliance of goods received from suppliers with contracted requirements, including correct documentation such as ISIRs, FAIRs (First Article Inspection Reports), and certificates of conformity.
  • Liaise with the Quality Control department to clarify any issues related to product conformity.
  • Communicate with Purchasing and Accounts regarding any quality or quantity issues that have resulted in a DMR being raised.

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Supplier Quality Engineer or in a similar role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of quality standards, including ISO9001, and experience with supplier quality management.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings, geometric dimensioning, and tolerance information.
  • Proficiency in using relevant measuring equipment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive and organised, with the ability to manage workload effectively.
  • Experience with vendor auditing and corrective action processes.
