Senior Mechanical Design Engineer required for a material testing equipment manufacturer based in Hook. The primary objective of this role is to deliver comprehensive design information, including all necessary documentation for CE/UKCA compliance, for both existing and new company products. This will be executed in alignment with the engineering plan, business strategy, and current sales targets. The role also includes providing support to the existing engineering team and other company departments when design assistance or information is needed, as well as mentoring the Electro-Mechanical Draughtsman.
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Job Overview- Develop electro-mechanical 3D models and technical drawings for company products under the direction of the Product Manager.
- Create 2D engineering drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs) derived from 3D models.
- Prepare and manage all design-related documentation, including generating design files, recording relevant calculations, and compiling documentation required for UKCA/CE compliance.
- Deliver comprehensive design and information packages, including electronic designs, to support procurement, production, and SSG teams.
- Maintain and update existing design documentation within the engineering system.
- Organize and lead design concept and scope meetings as needed to establish design criteria.
- Assist in managing the Engineering Change Request/Engineering Change Notice (ECR/ECN) process under the guidance of the Product Manager.
- Integrate new special-order designs into the existing product range with oversight from the Product Manager.
- Proactively identify and propose improvements to current product designs, obtaining approval from the Product Manager.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Expert proficiency with SolidWorks CAD software.
- Strong knowledge of machining processes, materials, finishing methods, and fabrication techniques.
- Familiarity with electrical/electronic products is advantageous.
- Understanding of application tolerances and cost-effective manufacturing practices.
- Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks 3D modeling.
- Strong mechanical design skills and ability to perform engineering calculations.
- Experience with AutoCAD/DraftSight is a plus.
- Practical workshop skills.
- Effective project and time management abilities.
- In-depth knowledge of BS8888 for engineering drawing standards.
- Excellent communication skills, particularly for mentoring junior team members and sharing knowledge.
- Familiarity with pressure vessel design, relevant design codes, and CE approval processes is beneficial.
- Salary dependent on experience likely £48k-£55k
