Our client, a prominent entity in the manufacturing and engineering sector, is seeking a skilled Senior Mechanical Product Design Engineer to join their team. This permanent role is pivotal in ensuring that new and existing products meet CE/UKCA compliance standards and align with the company's engineering plan, business strategy, and sales targets.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Produce electro-mechanical 3D models and technical drawings for products under the guidance of the product manager.
  • Create 2D engineering drawings and BOMs from 3D models.
  • Generate and maintain all design-related documentation, including files and calculations required for UKCA/CE approval.
  • Provide complete design and information packs, including electronic design, to support procurement, production, and SSG.
  • Maintain existing design-related documentation within the engineering system.
  • Lead design concept and scope meetings to establish design parameters.
  • Support the management of ECR/ECN processes under the guidance of the product manager.
  • Develop and incorporate new designs into the existing product range as guided by the product manager.
  • Take a leading role in identifying and suggesting improvements for existing product designs, seeking agreement from the product manager.
Job Requirements:
  • Understanding of working in a design office/engineering environment.
  • Degree level education in a mechanical engineering discipline.
  • Proficiency in using the Solidworks CAD package is essential.
  • Excellent knowledge of machining operations, materials, finishing processes, and fabrication.
  • A good appreciation of electrical/electronic products.
  • Understanding of application tolerances and economic manufacture principles.
Skills:
  • Expert-level proficiency with Solidworks 3D package.
  • Excellent mechanical design and engineering calculation skills.
  • Competency in AutoCAD / DraftSite is beneficial.
  • Good practical workshop skills.
  • Effective project and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of BS8888 standards for producing engineering drawings.
  • Strong communication skills for mentoring junior design office members and sharing expertise.
  • Familiarity with pressure vessels and design codes, and CE approval documentation is advantageous.
