Job Overview:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a primary school in the Eversley area. The LSA will work closely with teaching staff, supporting pupils with special educational needs or challenging behaviours. The role involves assisting students in the classroom, playground, and during activities, helping them stay on task and complete assignments. You will also be involved in managing behavioural issues, supporting lesson delivery, and collaborating with external agencies as required.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Classroom and Playground Support:

    • Provide individual and group support in the classroom and playground.
    • Ensure pupils stay engaged and complete tasks set by the teacher.
    • Offer supervision and promote positive behaviour during playtime.
  2. Behavioural and Special Needs Support:

    • Assist with managing behavioural challenges, working in tandem with the teacher.
    • Address instances of inappropriate behaviour, including bullying and disruptive actions.
    • Maintain behavioural standards, particularly for students with more complex needs.
  3. Curriculum and Lesson Support:

    • Help deliver lesson plans tailored to students' individual needs.
    • Assist with testing and assessment to help track pupil progress.
  4. Collaboration with External Agencies:

    • Identify signs of behavioural concerns and collaborate with health, social, and external agencies when necessary.
  5. Specialist Responsibilities (LSA 3):

    • Take on specific specialist responsibilities based on your training, such as speech therapy.
    • Provide support to colleagues in developing expertise in your specialist area.
Qualifications and Skills:

Essential:

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification.
  • Enhanced DBS Check (Children's Barred List).
  • At least two years of relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Empathy and understanding of pupils' needs.
  • Strong communication skills and basic literacy and numeracy abilities.
  • Professionalism, discretion, and adherence to confidentiality protocols.
  • Physical capability for manual handling tasks and working in a physically demanding environment.
  • Ability to manage pupil behaviour with a firm yet sensitive approach.
  • Strong organisational skills to effectively support teaching staff.

Desirable:

  • Training in personal or intimate medical care for children with special needs.
  • Experience with restraint techniques for managing challenging behaviour.
