Purpose of the Design Manager Role:
This is an exciting opportunity for a Design Manager to be responsible for leading the design phase from Sales Handover through to supplier handover, ensuring projects are delivered within agreed timeframes and budgets. This role involves liaising with architects, contractors, installers, and internal teams to provide seamless project execution.
Key Responsibilities for a Design Manager:
- Oversee the entire design process, ensuring compliance with project scope and lead times.
- Attend sales handover meetings to assess project risks, challenges, and opportunities.
- Schedule and lead design workshops with clients, main contractors, and architects.
- Coordinate with CAD Technicians to produce technical drawings and specifications.
- Ensure all designs align with commercial requirements and cost-effective solutions.
- Resolve design issues that may impact procurement, manufacturing, or installation.
- Identify and reserve long-lead-time items to prevent project delays.
- Provide detailed manufacturing drawings and specifications for procurement.
- Assist Project Managers in managing scope changes, cost variations, and valuations.
- Work to improve project margins through smart design and specification solutions.
- Maintain project documentation, including design briefs, approvals, and compliance records.
- Ensure all drawings and documents are correctly uploaded to relevant portals.
- Attend daily and weekly design team meetings to provide project updates.
Key Requirements for a Design Manager:
- Previous experience in a similar design/project management role.
- Strong understanding of construction, design processes, and technical drawings.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks.
- IT proficiency, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Commercial awareness with the ability to manage budgets and cost-effective solutions.
