This is a unique opportunity to take on a newly created role, allowing you to significantly impact our approach to construction safety and project delivery. Taking the lead in promoting a safety culture across our organisation, with the support of our CDM Team, you will drive continuous improvements in CDM processes, implementing industry-leading methods.

As a Lead CDM Manager with London Gatwick, you'll play a pivotal role, in shaping the future of our construction safety. Working collaboratively across all delivery, especially at a higher strategic level such as Programme Managers and Programme Design Managers to implement the best practices, you will be at the forefront of influencing effective design risk management in a diverse portfolio of airport infrastructure and facilities projects. From asset replacements to complex major developments, your expertise will help to define and enhance our safety strategy and deliver an ambitious investment plan.

The role

Reporting to the Lead Design Manager, the Lead CDM Manager will provide strategic oversight for a range of infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with CDM Regulations and maintaining health, safety, and efficiency from inception through to completion.

Other duties include:

  • Lead the development and maintenance of efficient processes and procedures for discharging Client and Principal Designer duties on all projects delivered by London Gatwick.
  • Guide the programme delivery teams in their production of deliverables required under the CDM Regulations.
  • Advise and assist delivery teams in identifying hazards and in proposing mitigations, by encouraging the use of Safe by Design principles and solutions.
  • Manage the execution plan for regular audits of compliance across all programmes, report findings to leadership and programme teams.
  • Maintain awareness of potential changes in CDM regulations and their broader implications.
  • Design, deliver, and plan CDM training and information for the delivery teams.

What are we looking for?

The environment at Gatwick requires all our teams to have a flexible and adaptable approach, with exceptional problem solving skills and an ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.

As well as significant experience in delivering infrastructure projects in a live environment, this role requires:

  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent in an architecture, engineering or construction related discipline.
  • Qualifications in a discipline associated with construction health & safety management which includes the requirements of safety in design and/or the CDM Regulations.
  • Significant working knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and its requirements/implications in construction projects.
  • Proven ability to present legal requirements and complex concepts in a clear, accessible manner to non-expert audiences, combined with expertise in training and equipping them with specialist skills and knowledge.
  • CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card.
