At Gatwick Immigration Removal Centre (IRC), there is an exciting opportunity for a Multi-skilled Technician to join the Facilities Management (FM) team. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring all aspects of detainee safety, security, and welfare provision are supported by effective maintenance services.

As a Multi-skilled Technician, you will be responsible for carrying out routine HVAC, mechanical, and some electrical engineering work, performing preventative maintenance and repairs, and assisting other members of the FM service team with multi-trade support.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and ensure various pre-planned maintenance schedules are up-to-date, following operational and safety requirements.
  • Perform HVAC, mechanical, and electrical engineering duties in accordance with recognized training and qualifications.
  • Undertake fault-finding and rectification of defects on installed plant and equipment as defined and specified in work orders.
  • Escort contractors around the site as required, following written procedures and ensuring compliance with site safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with the FM team to ensure efficient and effective delivery of services.
  • Prioritize workload effectively to meet the demands of the role, ensuring all tasks are completed in a timely and professional manner.
  • Participate in the Out of Hours call-out roster for the Facilities team.


Qualifications and Experience Required:
  • Essential: HVAC/Mechanical qualification (City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent).
  • Desirable: Electrical qualifications, ideally with experience in multi-skilled engineering work.
  • Demonstrable experience in HVAC, mechanical systems, and basic electrical maintenance and repairs.
  • A proactive, flexible approach to work with a focus on customer satisfaction and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise with contractors and staff effectively.


Additional Information:
  • Salary: Up to £38,000 per annum, with an additional payment of £140 when on call.
  • The successful candidate must be willing to join the Out of Hours call-out roster for the Facilities team.
