Overview

We are seeking two more passionate and experienced Community Cafe Managers to join our team. You will oversee the daily operations and growth of our newly established community cafe. This role is integral to creating a welcoming, inclusive space that serves great food while fostering community connections. The three managers will work collaboratively, sharing an average of 3.5 shifts per week, including weekends.

Key Responsibilities

1. Daily Cafe Operations
  • Oversee smooth and efficient day-to-day operations.
  • Maintain high standards of service, cleanliness, and food safety.
  • Manage stock levels, ordering supplies as needed to prevent shortages.
  • Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and hygiene regulations.
  • Prepare and serve meals as required, ensuring consistency and quality.
2. Menu Development & Healthy Food Focus
  • Design and refine a healthy, nutritious, and budget-friendly menu.
  • Ensure the menu caters to diverse dietary needs and preferences.
  • Adapt offerings based on community feedback and seasonal availability.
3. Volunteer Recruitment & Management
  • Recruit, train, and supervise a team of volunteers, ensuring they are well-supported and motivated.
  • Create and manage volunteer schedules, balancing skills and availability.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and team-oriented work environment.
4. Community Engagement & Events
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local community groups, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Support and coordinate community groups and events hosted in the cafe.
  • Implement initiatives to encourage local engagement and drive footfall.
5. Customer Service & Experience
  • Maintain excellent customer service standards, ensuring a friendly and welcoming environment.
  • Handle customer enquiries, feedback, and complaints professionally and efficiently.
  • Promote a community-focused ethos within the cafe.
6. Financial Oversight & Reporting
  • Monitor and manage the cafes budget, ensuring financial sustainability.
  • Track sales, manage cash handling, and perform regular financial reporting.
  • Identify opportunities to increase revenue while maintaining affordability for the community.
7. Teamwork & Shift Management
  • Work collaboratively with the co-managers to ensure seamless daily operations.
  • Share responsibilities and ensure shift coverage across the cafes hours: Monday-Friday (9 AM - 5 PM) and Weekends (10 AM - 1 PM).
  • Be prepared to adapt as the cafe expands its hours.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Proven experience in a cafe, hospitality, or community project management role.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • A passion for community engagement and volunteerism.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience in financial management and stock control is desirable.
  • Comfortable preparing and serving meals in a cafe setting.
  • Food hygiene and safety certification (or willingness to obtain one).
Salary & Working Hours
  • Salary: £22,000-£24,000 p/a pro rata (depending on experience).
  • Hours:Shift Patterns, weekdays (9am-5pm) and weekends (10am-1pm). Working an average of 3.5 shifts per week, with flexibility as the cafes hours expand.
