Maths Lead

Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 per annum

Location: London Borough of Havering

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Maths Lead to work across two alternative provision academies. This is a unique opportunity to lead and inspire in a role that will transform students' lives and educational journeys.

Key Responsibilities
  • Curriculum Development: Design and implement a dynamic KS3/4 Maths curriculum that engages and inspires all students.
  • Leadership: Collaborate with leadership teams to establish a clear and strategic vision for Maths across both academies.
  • Action Plans: Develop and execute coherent, impactful plans for the Maths curriculum.
  • Teaching Excellence: Demonstrate and model the highest standards of teaching, learning, and assessment.
  • Department Management: Lead, support, and manage Maths department staff, ensuring high performance and professional development.
  • Resources & Strategies: Create and maintain syllabuses, resources, schemes of work, marking policies, and teaching strategies to ensure excellent outcomes.
  • Student Engagement: Plan interactive and exciting Maths lessons that engage KS3/4 students, including those with SEMH and additional barriers to learning.
  • Safeguarding: Act immediately on child protection concerns and ensure compliance with safeguarding policies.
  • Coaching & Mentorship: Mentor students and work closely with parents, carers, and external agencies to meet individual needs.
  • Professional Growth: Contribute to the wider professional responsibilities and vision of the academies.

Please note: Duties are not exhaustive and may include other responsibilities as required by the headteacher.

Person SpecificationQualifications
  • Essential:
    • First degree or equivalent.
    • DfE-recognised Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills Status (QTLS).
  • Desirable:
    • Evidence of CPD to enhance classroom practice.
Experience
  • Essential:
    • Proven record of successful classroom practice.
    • Strong behaviour management skills, including the use of de-escalation techniques.
    • Experience using assessment data to track progress and raise standards.
    • Experience supporting students with SEMH and complex educational needs.
    • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Desirable:
    • Experience providing pastoral support for SEMH students.
Knowledge
  • Essential:
    • In-depth understanding of the KS3/4 Maths curriculum and assessment frameworks.
    • Knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies, as well as current pedagogical approaches.
    • Awareness of the challenges in SEMH environments and working with disadvantaged students.
  • Desirable:
    • Understanding of specialised SEMH curricula and additional needs such as ASD, ADHD, and SpLD.
Skills and Abilities
  • Strong strategic, analytical, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to teach Maths confidently and creatively across KS3/4 to a range of abilities.
  • Effective time management to work across two sites.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with students, staff, parents, and external agencies.
