The role

Based at the company’s manufacturing site, reporting into the Quality Assurance Manager, the role of Polymer Scientist will be the key link between research, development, quality and manufacturing in relation to adhesive design and processing.

Key responsibilities will include -

  • Design and execute investigations into process parameters and limitations.
  • Ensuring robustness and capability in R&D, and the effective transfer to scale processes.
  • Support and provide technical guidance to the production, engineering, quality engineering and the scientific teams regarding the implementation of new processes.
  • Work in collaboration with these teams in the implementation of new products and processes.
  • Support manufacturing with troubleshooting adhesive processing issues, to include examination of raw materials for both current and new product development work.
  • Statistically evaluate data obtained and use this data to support scientific arguments.
  • Maintain accurate records of all experimental methods and data, including detailed reports to the appropriate teams.

About you -

  • You will have a Degree in an appropriate scientific qualification (polymer science / chemistry / material science / chemical engineering or a relevant scientific discipline).
  • Experience in the processing of thermoplastic elastomers within a manufacturing environment is essential, (ideally within a pressure sensitive adhesive setting).
  • A scientific understanding of the behaviour of materials during the adhesive manufacturing process.
  • Experience of mechanical, chemical and physical methods of polymer analysis.
  • Skilled in the gathering and analysis of data from sound experimental design to influence the technical direction of material processing considerations. Confident in the use of statistical tools to analyse data.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills are required; you will collaborate with, and present data and knowledge in various methods to all stakeholders within the business.
  • The ability to critically evaluate and trouble shoot any problems.
  • Good understanding of health and safety requirements in a laboratory environment, along with excellent IT and administrative skills.

Note - Whilst primarily based at the company’s manufacturing site in Horsham, you may be required to occasionally visit head office in the Midlands, as well as vendor and customer sites, and trade shows in the UK and overseas.
