Spinwell is recruiting for a Building Inspector Team Leader for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.


RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE BUILDING INSPECTOR TEAM LEADER

To be responsible for the administrative and technical processes of the Councils Building Control function, through the management of a small team of Building Inspectors and the management and oversight of the enforcement procedures for, and enforcement action taken by the building control team, ensuring team members are competent, and only operate within their competence.

To undertake technical assessments/ activities and make decisions on those assessments, using skill, knowledge, experience gained through qualifications and practical experience commensurate to the post holders Class of registration.

Effectively deliver the Building Control function throughout the Councils jurisdiction and as part of any partnering or similar scheme, ensuring buildings comply with the relevant regulatory standards in terms of health, safety, sustainability, energy conservation, accessibility, and design.


SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE BUILDING INSPECTOR TEAM LEADER

  • Registered Building Inspector with the Building Safety Regulator at Class 2A, B C, D, E and F
  • Managerial and decision-making skills and experience relevant to all aspects of building control, including understanding professional boundaries and how they impact on service delivery within the setting of local government.
  • Knowledge of legislation, regulations, and professional codes of practice for the service area, including the operational standards rules set by the Building Safety Regulator and legislation relating to construction and Health and Safety at Work (etc) Act 1974 and associated Building control functions offered by a Local Authority.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the construction industry, methods, techniques, and materials.
  • Financial acumen, as building control is chargeable and monies must be accounted for, as well as how financial constraints impact on service delivery.
  • Effective written, oral, communication and presentation skills with the ability to maintain accurate records.
  • People skills, effective communication, teamwork, and leadership
  • Research, analysis, risk awareness and assessment linked to decision-making.
  • IT proficient, with a good range of skills, including correspondence, data input and ability to use relevant office programmes and software.
