Positive Behaviour Mentor Required for School in Slinfold

This school is set in Horsham and is an all through school for vulnerable students who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, in particular, all the children have experienced trauma.

This school strives to give their pupils a fresh approach to learning in their alternative provision setting. They encourage pupils to continue their educational progress both within the time they are there and when they are ready to move on to other schools and establishments.

This provision recognises the need to address both the social and emotional needs of their pupils alongside and in conjunction with their educational needs.

Applications for the position are welcome from candidates of ranging experience, and training will be provided, although previous experience working with students with SEMH, particularly attachment and trauma is preferable. Experience working with children with challenging behaviour is important and a strong sense of behaviour management is key.

Due to the location of the school, the ideal candidate will need to be a driver with access to their own vehicle, as it is not accessible by Public Transport.

Your Role

  • Supporting a range of vulnerable children ranging from Reception to KS4

  • Be able to appropriately calm children down and de-escalate

  • Be able to effectively behaviour manage

  • Working with other support staff to engage pupils in class and minimise disruption

  • Providing feedback to teachers and parents

  • Be available - Full or Part time - 8.15am - 3.30pm

  • You will be expected to think on your feet and be proactive, no day is the same in a Special School, so being prepared is vital.

  • Ability to form excellent relationships and rapport with pupils
