A dedicated school for children aged 7-19 years, based in Horsham, who have special educational challenges, are looking for a compassionate and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team. The school has a deep focus on addressing the educational, social and therapeutic needs of students, focusing on individual happiness and well-being where students can thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

They are NAS accredited with an Ofsted rated 'Good' that caters for academically able autistic students with associated difficulties, including ADHD and complex needs.

This role is ideal if you have career aspirations in the field of teaching, psychology, social work, probation services, care or if you simply love working with children.

Responsibilities of a SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Working as directed by the Classroom Teachers and Senior Leadership Team.
  • Understand how a pupil's learning is affected by their physical, intellectual, emotional and social development and understand the stages of child development.
  • Make effective and efficient use of ICT for classroom and management support.
  • Provide support and encouragement to children and young people.
  • Challenge and motivate pupils, promote and reinforce self-esteem.
  • Participate in the marking of pupils' work and accurately record achievement/progress.
  • Encourage children to value their experiences and knowledge.
  • Be familiar and keep up to date with the school's systems and structures as outlined in policy documents including Health and Safety and Child Protection policies.
  • Be familiar and up to date with SEN Code of Practice.

Requirements of a SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Impose patience and understanding.
  • Always be adaptable in any give situation.
  • Be able to develop strong and positive relationships with children.
  • Committed to working as part of a team.
  • Must be able to Drive.
