TRAINEE AUTISM TEACHER - ENTRY LEVEL - SURREY BASED - £85-£110 per day

Are you passionate about having a positive impact and making a real difference to the lives of children with SEN?

We are looking for a dedicated Autism Support Assistant to support children with autism and associated challenging behaviours at a school near Guildford. You will have access to a wide range of funded training and qualification opportunities in SEN education whilst gaining a breadth of experience with children of varying ages and abilities.

The School:

This school provides a safe learning environment for children with moderate learning needs. You will be working at a day school rated 'Outstanding' by Ofsted for autistic children aged 4-19.

This school uses behaviour driven teaching strategies and interventions to encourage positive outcomes and development of pupils. Working within small classes individually and in groups, you will design, plan and deliver teaching sessions to encourage pupils' learning and progression as well as improve their social and emotional development.

The school operates a fully integrated Therapy Programme to support each student's Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Therapists work 1:1 with children to ensure their physical and emotional needs are met. The school has excellent facilities and on-site equipment including sensory rooms; there is excellent on-site training, support and CPD.

Job role and responsibilities:

  • Assist the class teacher in providing the learning experience of students
  • Plan, prepare and deliver lessons and activities, focusing largely on communication skills and life skills
  • Support pupils' participation in trips, applying theory-based learning to practice
  • Provide behaviourally based support to replace and reduce behaviours that impact quality of life
  • Monitor pupils' progress
  • Behaviour and pastoral support
  • Ability to build robust and effective relationships with students
  • Practical approach to meet the individual needs of students
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Caring, compassionate, and a good listener
  • Ensure safeguarding of students
  • Attend staff meetings and complete appropriate CPD
