We are seeking 4Technical Officersto work within Heathrow Airport and will be on a 12-month contract.
Overview of the role
Reporting to a Higher Executive Officer (HEO) plan and undertake a programme of tasks, working independently and/or as part of a team.
The role provides technical operational services to safeguard animal health and welfare and public health, protect the economy and enhance food security through inspection, surveillance, regulation and enforcement.
- A TO role is primarily field-based, involved in animal disease surveillance, control and eradication in farmed species.
- The principle task of a TO is the surveillance and control of animal disease through on farm collecting blood samples for gamma interferon testing and associated tasks. Other TO duties will be required as necessary. A TO will be expected to work alone or in teams with veterinary colleagues and AHOs.
- A Technical Officer may be required to support APHA incident and disease response.
- A Technical Officer must have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English to enable effective communication about veterinary topics with customers and have a sufficient command of spoken and written English to effectively perform the role being undertaken by a public sector worker in a customer-facing role
Working hours and requirements;
- This is a shift role working 4 on 4 off pattern of 10h32min shifts with shifts taking place on a rota basis. Shifts Day, Late Night between the hours of 05:00 00:00. However, there may be occasions e.g. notifiable disease outbreak, when some flexibility may be required for weekend working.
- Overnight stays at locations remote from the base office may be required.
What do you need?
-Eligible Right to Work in the UK not through visa sponsorship.
- IT Literate
- Good Spoken English as will need to communicate with Farmers
- Agricultural/Horticultural experience is desirable but full training will be given
- Full valid driving licence and access to own car.
- Role will be field based and all PPE required will be provided.
Salary £32k based on a full year.
Start date: 6th January 2025
