Job Description

As the Fire, Health and Safety (FHS) Business Partner for Solutions - Infrastructure, you'll play a crucial role in seeking out and implementing strategic initiatives, providing in-depth direction and support in delivering a deeper level of fire, health and safety advice to the Programme Managers and Senior Project Managers. Your knowledge and experience will continue to improve the safety culture within Infrastructure by seeking out marginal gains, whilst ensuring the solid foundation of our safety management system is embedded. This will be even more important as we strengthen relationships with existing partners and build relationships with new ones as we move into a concentrated delivery phase.

Reporting to the Head of Health and Safety & Wellbeing Solutions - Infrastructure, you'll work closely with your peers in the FHSW Team to learn and share initiatives, learning and good practice in construction safety whilst ensuring that the strategic objectives of the FHSW team are aligned to Infrastructure and delivered. You will be expected to develop and maintain effective strategic professional relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including designers, construction partners, Programme and Senior Project Managers and other functions within the oprganisation that have a role in delivering and maintaining our assets safely. On occasion, you may be required to support other BU's within the FHSW Team as the needs of the business change.

To ensure our construction partners are complying with their duties under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, your role will involve ensuring 2nd line of defence assurance is carried out.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Fire, Health, Safety & Wellbeing team to ensure Heathrow's FHS standards are developed, delivered and adopted by Infrastructure Solutions where required.
  • Further build upon Infrastructure's safety culture; seek innovation, health and safety training and initiatives, strategically promote a 'Just Culture' in line with Infrastructure Solutions being a Values led, learning function.
  • Prioritise the teams site visit schedule by understanding the project complexities and risk by build relationships with strategic stakeholders.
  • Steer incident investigations in a collaborative way that enables root cause to be determined and the learning shared across functions.
  • Guide collaborative working between Infrastructure Solutions and other departments (e.g. Engineering, Operations) to ensure that more complex safety issues are managed appropriately.
  • Provide in-depth health and safety advice to Programme Managers and peers, influence health and safety within supplier partners and the FHSW team.
  • Steer on developing assurance plans for your reports to implement.
  • Develop and lead Safety Improvement Plans.
  • Develop others through coaching and mentoring. Develop, maintain and improve your own Fire, Health and Safety competencies.
  • Ensure, where necessary, incidents are loaded and retrievable on Airsweb and ensure the First Alert process is managed correctly.
  • Liaise with the Health and Safety Executive and other Regulators if required. Provide the Head of Health, Safety & Wellbeing - Infrastructure Solutions and the wider FHSW team with updates on FHS performance.

Qualifications

  • Safety professional with strong experience gained within a broad range of functions e.g. construction, transport, engineering etc.
  • National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent).
  • National Certificate in Fire Safety (or equivalent) would be an advantage.
  • Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH).
  • Excellent communication skills and stakeholder management.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present data in a meaningful way.
  • Excellent standard of written work and report writing.
  • Excellent understanding of project management processes.
