FINANCIAL CONTROLLER, Kirklees, West Yorkshire, £70k - £80k+ package
My Client, a well established and successful business in their niche in the Construction Industry, is looking for an experienced Financial Controller to manage the day-to-day operation of the various finance systems of the business, including financial and management accounts, accounts payable, purchase ledger, and payroll.
This role would not suit a first time Financial Controller, it would suit an experienced Financial Controller keen to develop and progress to Head of Finance and then Finance Director.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, develop, and motivate the finance team to achieve high performance.
- Manage management accounting systems to provide up-to-date, timely, and relevant information to managers for proper business control.
- Maintain accounting records in line with statutory requirements and ensure compliance with Financial Reporting Standards.
- Manage the company's payroll and ensure accurate and timely employee payments.
- Authorise statutory returns and tax payments, ensuring compliance with tax legislation.
- Provide financial reporting to managers to enable effective department management.
Communications / Working Relationships
- Work with managers across the business to agree annual budgets in line with Group targets and deadlines.
- Liaise with external auditors for year-end financial account completion.
Key Results Areas
- Produce insightful, forward-looking financial data for review with relevant managers using various reporting tools.
- Ensure the accuracy of all accounting and management reports.
- Authorise PAYE and NI, P11D reporting.
- Authorise VAT and Corporation Tax returns.
- Ensure all systems and procedures comply with Group Finance and Administration Manual requirements.
- Conduct annual appraisals, six-month mini-appraisals, and implement development plans.
Scope of Impact
- Provides accounting services to all business functions.
- Produces reports and monitors business performance against budgets.
- Manages monthly payroll to set timelines.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Essential
- Qualified Accountant (CIMA/ACCA)
- Minimum 5 years post-qualified experience in a UK business
- Strong skills in reporting, analysis, budgeting, forecasting, accounting, compliance, leadership, and strategic planning
- Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, adaptability, flexibility, time management and integrity
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Dynamics, BOARD as a BI tool or equivalent, Crystal Reports, and SQL
Preferred
- Experience in the UK Civil Engineering / Construction / Construction Hire industry
