Purpose of the Job

  • Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with the Board of Trustees to shape and review the organization's mission and strategic direction. Ensure the effective monitoring of annual plans and targets.
  • Operational Oversight: Provide leadership, management, and administration of the organization, ensuring alignment with Board policies.
  • Governance Support: Ensure the Board receives the necessary advice and information to fulfill its governance responsibilities.


Principal Tasks

  1. Working with the Board:

    • Reporting: Regularly present and report on the organization's progress and key matters to the Board.
    • Policy Development: Develop and propose policies for Board discussion and decision-making.
    • Meeting Planning: Ensure an annual calendar of Board meetings is established.
  2. Leading and Managing the Organization:

    • Strategic Planning: Develop and oversee a long-term strategy to guide the organization toward its objectives.
    • Cultural Leadership: Ensure the organization's values and philosophy are consistently applied.
    • Legal and Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the organization meets its legal obligations, including responsibilities related to CQC registered services.
    • Team Leadership: Provide leadership and support to senior management, appraising the performance of direct reports.
    • Resource Management: Ensure the organization has adequate resources (human, material, financial) to operate effectively.
    • Financial Oversight: Work with the Director of Business and Finance to manage finances, advising the Board on financial viability.
    • Human Resources: Foster an HR culture that aligns with the organization's mission and maximizes staff potential.
    • Health and Safety: Act as the responsible person for health and safety within the organization.
    • Out-of-Hours Support: Provide advice and support outside of regular hours as needed.
  3. Promotion of the Organization:

    • Networking: Maintain effective relationships with funders, supporters, and stakeholders.
    • Expansion and Promotion: Seek opportunities to expand and enhance the organization's role.
    • Public Representation: Ensure the organization is professionally represented to stakeholders.
