Senior Conservation Officer
- Job Type: Temporary Contract, Full-Time, Hybrid
- Salary: £20.98 - £40 PAYE per hour

Join the Council’s Development Management team within the Conservation and Design Team. As a Senior Conservation Officer, you will provide professional advice, guidance, interpretation, and evaluation on heritage conservation as it relates to pre-planning enquiries, planning applications, appeals, and consents.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Provide heritage advice during pre-application discussions and planning applications.
- Contribute to the Council’s Local Plan and policies concerning heritage conservation issues, ensuring compliance with agreed targets, timescales, and priorities.
- Conduct surveys and assessments for Listed Building Consent applications and the designation of conservation areas.
- Respond to enquiries from applicants, agents, and developers, advising on planning and related permissions and the procedures to be followed.
- Discuss, consult, and negotiate on proposals; prepare reports and formulate recommendations on planning applications.
- Prepare the Council’s written statements for planning and enforcement appeals or to initiate enforcement action against breaches of planning control in relation to heritage.
- Attend public inquiries, informal hearings, and/or court proceedings to give evidence on behalf of the Council.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Knowledge of planning law, policy, and procedures relating to heritage.
- A relevant qualification in Heritage Conservation or a related subject and/or experience in the field.
- Ability to carry out site visits, including the inspection of buildings and work at height.
- Possession of a full driving license.
- Numeracy skills for performing accurate financial and arithmetical calculations.
- Experience dealing with heritage in relation to Development Management.
