Kirklees Council is seeking a Refuse Collector Driver to join our Environment & Climate Change team. This role is crucial in driving HGV vehicles, mechanical sweepers, or refuse collection vehicles to collect refuse, trade waste, or skips from households and businesses. We are looking for someone who is innovative and committed to providing excellent customer service while maintaining a positive public image.
Day-to-day of the role:- Drive vehicles up to and including HGVs, primarily refuse vehicles or mechanical sweepers, in compliance with legal obligations and driver behaviour expectations.
- Work independently or as part of a team to perform cleansing duties or collect refuse and trade waste from households and businesses.
- Ensure the correct use of lifting equipment and disposal arrangements, and provide instructions to others on work practices to comply with health and safety standards.
- Follow work schedules and interpret maps or management information to support collection schedule arrangements.
- Complete records, tachographs, and use technologies such as in-cab systems to capture data, report variations, or areas of concern.
- Contribute to the performance management of staff, including training, instruction, and supervision.
- Identify problems related to waste, driving conditions, or operational matters to ensure appropriate actions are taken.
- Maintain driver records, timesheets, and other information systems accurately and timely.
- Undertake duties of a refuse loader or other cleansing duties as required, including assisting in collecting waste, operating lifting equipment, and providing information to the public on refuse collection arrangements.
- Check and maintain vehicles, undertake driver checks, clean vehicles, and report any accidents, faults, or repair needs promptly.
- Valid Full UK Driving Licence.
- Up-to-date CPC training.
- Experience driving HGV vehicles, preferably in a refuse collection or similar environment.
- Ability to work early shifts starting from 5.30 am and flexibility to work up to 39.5 hours per week.
- Strong commitment to health and safety standards and customer service.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
