Autism Support Assistant
NextGen Teachers are proud to be recruiting on behalf of a School in Huddersfield who are looking for an Advanced Autism Support Assistant to start as soon as possible on a full-time basis supporting children with SEMH and Autism needs. The successful candidate will have not only a strong set of skills to support children with advanced needs, but also have qualities and experience that are at an advanced level alongside a passion for caring and supporting children's development.

Autism Support Assistant roles and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with learning and development of children during their activity and interest led learning by identifying and preparing resources required to support learning outcomes.
  • Assisting pupils' achievements by monitoring, supporting and having strong communication with class teacher.
  • Lead individual/small groups of children in teacher-led learning activities such as sensory play, communication techniques and promote independence as well as creative and tactile physical learning.
  • Maintain upkeep of classroom resources and preparation of materials (e.g. books, pencils, art supplies, games, P.E activity set up etc.)
  • Support children with their independence and confidence both inside and outside of the classroom on a 1:1 basis
  • Support the children's social, emotional and physical development by creating a safe environment for learning with the use of strong behaviour management skills.

Autism Support Assistant Non-Negotiables:

  • Must have recent and relevant experience working with those that need additional support, and be available to give personal care to pupils
  • Must have recent experience working with children with SEN and SEMH needs and be able to handle challenging behaviours.
  • Must have the ability to work well under the guidance of the class teacher and have good team player attributes.
  • Must have a passion for education and the welfare and safeguarding of children and young people.
  • Be comfortable and flexible with an adapted structure of learning based both indoors and outdoors.
