Vision for Education is seeking to appoint a Senior Autism Support Worker to work in a specialist SEND setting in the Huddersfield area.

About the Role

Vision for Education is seeking to appoint a Senior Autism Support Worker to work in a specialist SEND setting in Huddersfield. The role will play an important role in helping to ensure a positive, high quality experience for student and promoting best practice.  This is a full-time role, Monday - Friday during term time only.  It will involve all aspects of supporting teaching and learning including, where required, assisting with personal care needs.  The role will at times involve whole group cover / cover supervision with SEND learners. 

You may already be working within Special Needs Education, or your experience may have been gained within care, residential, outreach or community environments.  Alternatively you may be looking to transition from a comparable role within a mainstream enviroment.  The role is varied and will involve supporting colleagues, covering sessions on occasion, potentially some outreach work with learners in the local community, working from teacher's planning and / or delivering specific interventions.  Y

Requirements

To be considered for the role of Senior Autism Support Worker you will:

  • Have a minimum of 2 year's experience of supporting young people with Autism (we must be able to reference this)
  • Have excellent communication skills - verbal and non verbal (AAC including Makaton, experience of using PECs)
  • Be an excellent role model for staff and students alike, continually reflecting on and looking to improve your practice
  • Be adaptable and proactive, calm and effective in your work
  • Literacy and Numeracy skills to at least Level 2 or equivalent
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible to the needs of the school.

  • Have Team Teach training or be willing to attend a free course delivered by Vision for Education

Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are:

  • 2 years' experience of working with children or young people with Autism
