Job Title: Design Engineer

Location: Hull, HU9

Annual Salary: £35,000 - £40,000

Working Days & Hours: Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Purpose of the Design Engineer:

The role of Design Engineer is to work in the drawing office and design manufacturing processes and products.

Key Duties:

  • Coordinate individual projects through the engineering department to ensure on-time completion
  • As a Design Engineer you will create structured 3D models and accurate 2D manufacturing drawings based on job specifications
  • Ensure drawings comply with vehicle regulations and standard formats
  • Design basic components and update drawings as needed for design changes
  • Collaborate across departments for effective communication
  • Produce sales drawings and occasionally contribute to R&D projects
  • Liaise with the shop floor during job production

Key Skills:

  • Proficient in Autodesk Inventor 2023, Vault 2023, and AutoCAD 2023 (Experience with iLogic is a plus)
  • As a Design Engineer you must be skilled in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong engineering knowledge of materials such as steel, timber, and GRP composites
  • Understanding of Design for Manufacture principles
  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing environments
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to visualise solutions
  • Basic project management capabilities
  • Effective at meeting deadlines with a meticulous attention to detail

Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years’ of experience in a similar position or industry
  • Background of engineering qualifications, preferably mechanical
  • Practical experience in commercial vehicle bodybuilding or van conversion using insulated panels is advantageous
