The Caretaker/Porter is a key member of our site staff, responsible for a variety of essential tasks around the premises. This role requires establishing excellent and professional working relationships with group staff, selected external suppliers, and all stakeholders. Above all, the Caretaker/Porter must recognise their role as a service provider, supporting the Estates ethos and brand.
The summary of the role is to maintain a diligent oversight of the day-to-day security, and a hands-on proactive approach in the operation aspects and maintenance of the estate.
Hiring Manager: General Manager
Main Duties -
Security/Key Holding:
- Key holding duties including daily unlocking and locking of buildings all year round, as well as callout duties.
- Respond to situations relating to the security and safety of the estate premises out of hours.
- Assist in the protection of the property assets. Support the estates brand values through the appearance of the manor house and surrounding estate.
Caretaking:
- Carry out caretaking duties, minor repairs, and maintenance to the estate.
- Undertake regular building inspections, including heating, lighting, fire, and alarm systems to ensure they are in good working order; inform senior managers of any major repairs or maintenance work identified.
- Grounds maintenance including general gardening and cleanliness of the estate grounds and buildings exteriors.
- Work with the General Manager to anticipate, prevent, mitigate, and manage hazards.
- Supervise external contractors whilst on site.
- Maintain accurate logs in the event of fire, flood, breaking and entering, accident, or damage.
Events/Porter:
- Aid in organising the manual set-up of events taking place across the estate, as required.
- Provide a friendly and professional induction to guest check-in/out at the property.
- Carry out fire tests, drills, and evacuation exercises for staff.
- Contribute to the moving of furniture and deliveries, along with assisting the room service staff with laundry, rubbish, and manual tasks.
- Always ensure the safety of guests with hazards such as slips, trips, and falls.
- Any other reasonable duties, taking into consideration ability, training, experience, and qualifications.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
Training in Health & Safety, Fire Marshall duties and First Aid would be required/provided.
Ability to carry out minor skilled repairs and maintenance work e.g., woodwork, plumbing, painting and decorating.
Able to work under own initiative, under pressure within structured timescales.
Have a high quality, methodical approach to work.
Customer focused, generates new ideas and working practices to exceed expectations without being prompted.
Strong communicator, able to listen to and assess the estates needs and summarise building issues in simple easily understandable terms.
An enhanced DBS check will be required.
